Lingang New Town　临港新城

Lingang New Town is locacted by the coast of East China Sea. It's at the intersection of the Mouth of the Changjiang River and the Hangzhou Bay, 50 km away from the city center. It is planned to cover an area of 300 km². Donghai Bridge integrates Yangshan Deep-water Port and Lingang New Town. Lingang New Town will be an important satellite town of Shanghai in the future, strategically located for the economic development of Shanghai moving eastward.

The designing of Lingang New Town fully demonstrates the characteristics of the 21st-century new cities, focusing on the individualistically and scientifically liberal environments and embodying the harmonious relationship between man and nature. In terms of function, the town falls into five sections: the town proper, heavy equipment industries, logistics, major industries, and comprehensive area. Though divided and having respective functions, the sections are cooperative and scientifically structured. Meanwhile, another four urban communities, Nicheng, Shuyuan, Wanxiang, and Lucaogang are to be built.

The town proper is a comprehensive service area for city life. With the Dishui Lake covering an area of 5.6 km² as its center, the town is planned to have an area of about 100 km², 50 km² of which is used as the urban construction area. The lake is dotted with three islands: star hotel island, theme park island and yacht dock island. With the lake at the center, the town radiates in all directions, forming the urban life ring, the urban park landscaping ring, and the urban residential ring. The population is 500,000 to 600,000. The section of industries focuses on modern equipment manufacturing, with modern equipment industry, export processing, and hi-tech industry as the core. And the section of heavy equipment industry and logistics is the important basis for the construction of the international terminal port for containers. It is an international trading platform.

The future Lingang New Town will be an ecological green city. The new town is the hinderland of Yangshan Port and a major base for containers as well. It also includes a beautiful living quarter and a highly efficient industrial area. Its planned total area is 293 km². At present, its population is 150000, with 24000 in surrounding towns and counties.

The Dishui Lake is the largest artificial lake dug out in the beach. The water area is equivalent to the West Lake in Hangzhou. The lake is in a circular shape, with a diameter of 2.66 km, an average depth of 3.7 m, and the deepest part is 6.2 m. It took two months to draw water into the lake.

Lingang New Town is backed by Yangshan Deep-water Port and Pudong International Airport and borders China's first cross-sea bridge and the first national bonded port. By means of the unique geographical conditions, the prominent vantage point, and the support by the open-up policy, it will radiate to Shanghai and the whole Changjiang Delta.
