Shanghai Xintiandi 上海新天地

Shanghai Xintiandi, which consists mainly of stone-gate buildings, is a new landmark that integrates tourism, sightseeing, relaxation, and shopping. It is a product of the blending of Chinese and Western styles, and moreover the history and culture of Shanghai that get solidified on architecture. The externally simple-looking stone-gate residences have been internally transformed into the living environments of the 21st-century modern city. With many cafes, Chinese and Western restaurants, fashion shops, international galleries, etc. Xintiandi receives numerous tourists from all over the world every day. Sauntering in Xintiandi, you look round into the distance, finding arches, paths, and brick walls in all directions in the stone-gate lanes. Turning backward, you will see some balconies with carved railings. You would probably feel as if you were in the neighborhood of old Shanghai in the 1920s, unintentionally appreciating the bygone charms of old Shanghai. The classical and nostalgic atmosphere is permeated with the energetic fashionable elements. Such thrilling emotions are lingering in the mind of every tourist. Xintiandi is divided into Southern Block and Northern Block. Southern Block is mainly composed of modern buildings with some stone-gate houses, while Northern Block almost completely reserves the original outlook of the stone-gate neighborhood, rich in nostalgic ambience. To the east of Xintiandi is the Taiping Bridge Green Land, in which there is the largest artificial lake in the center of the city.

In February 1999, Hong Kong Rui'an Group and Shanghai Fuxing Construction Development Co., Ltd. jointly invested 1100 million HK dollars, of which Rui' an Group holds 97% of the shares. On the basis of the principle of "repairing the old into the original form, protecting history, and boosting the city with culture," they launched a protective exploitation of this area, maintaining the stone-gate architecture that represents civil culture of Shanghai on the one hand and constructing new buildings that emit modern ambience on the other. The total floor space amounts to 58000 m2. Thanks to its historical and cultural profiles, the modernization of the internal space, and the international trade, the elderly Chinese would find it quite nostalgic when going into Xintiandi, the young Chinese would feel rather fashionable, the foreigners would find it very Chinese, and the Chinese would feel it is very foreign. Before long, Xintiandi has become a high-class consumptive place of casual culture with a very high standard. When APEC was held in Shanghai, heads of state and ministers of many countries and CEOs of transnational companies came to Xintiandi and enjoy its special food and beverage one after another.

Xintiandi in Shanghai externally keeps the old bricks, tiles, and stone gates; internally, however, every building has been renovated in accordance with the living style, living tempo, and emotional feelings of the 21st century urban people, having become international galleries, fashion shops, theme restaurants, cafes and bars, etc. The Oriental Food and Beverage Recreational Center, jointly run by Alan Tam, Jackie Chan and other hundred Hong Kong stars, is an original creation of combining culture with food and beverage. It is a place where the fans can often interact with their idols. The glaze workshop theme restaurant run by Yeung Wai-Saan, a well-known Taiwan movie star, enables the diners to enjoy their food in a colorful crystal palace. The Paris singing and dancing performance in the French restaurant and its basement wine cellar are quite tempting. The Japanese music restaurant offers rock'n'roll music every night. The Brazilian roast meat restaurant brings South American performance for the diners.
