Oriental Green Boat　东方绿舟

The Oriental Green Boat is an activities Campsite for the Teens. It covers an area of some 5600 mu. Its investment amounts to RMB 1.1 billion yuan. And it was open to the public in October 2001.

The Oriental Green Boat is mainly targeted at the teens for the high quality organized creative activities. It lays emphasis on individual participation and practice, acquisition of personal experiences, broadening of their horizon and enrichment of knowledge. Students are able to temper themselves in a variety of activities, thus receiving education in entertainment.

The Oriental Green Boat can also extend the classroom education at school. The content of activities as well as the bridges, civil residences, rivers, and roads has a variety of scientific and cultural knowledge that the teens are not likely to acquire in the classroom.

The Oriental Green Boat is organized into eight areas: the Knowledge Avenue, the National Defense Educational Area, the Bravery and Wisdom Area, the Scientific Exploration Area, the Survival Challenging Area, the Water Sports Area, the Living Experience Area, and the Sports Training Area.

The design of the main entrance of the Oriental Green Boat is quite unique. Besides the 10000 m² round square, a large yellow rockery was erected in the north of the square and from its top a waterfall flows down torrentially and the water goes to the fountain pond at the center of the square, where the water is blown up into the skies again. The structure combines the modern and classic styles.

From the main entrance stretches a 700-m-long and 25-m-wide "Knowledge Avenue". On both sides of the avenue, there are 162 statues of famous scientists, artists, and thinkers, Chinese and foreign, at present and in the past. There are the statues of Confucius, Laozi, Socrates, Aristotle, and many others. And, there is a tall and huge sculpture entitled "Holding up Tomorrow's Sun". The avenue ends at the plaza of "The Bay of the Sail", at the center of which is erected the sculpture of a tall white sail. As a landmark of the Oriental Green Boat, it conveys the implication that the teenagers enjoy the opportunity to practice and acquire knowledge here and will then set sails toward their dreams.

The National Defense Educational Area, located in the east of the Oriental Green Boat, consists of a pseudo aircraft carrier, 220-m long, 48-m wide, and 46-m high, and forms a military activity section. This pseudo aircraft carrier is modeled after USS Nimitz, a nuclear-powered multimission aircraft carrier, at a ration of 1:1 and at a manufacturing price of RMB 120 million yuan. On the bottom floor of the aircraft carrier is the Simulated Training Hall of the army, the navy, and the air force, where the teenagers can participate in simulated shooting training. The Firearms Hall mainly exhibits all kinds of heavy and light firearms. On the first floor of the carrier is the Weaponry Hall, in which are exhibited all kinds of genuine cannons, armored and ordinary vehicles, as well as other advanced weapons, facilities, real or modeled. The 4D movie theater is on the first floor, showing 4D movies such as The War among the Planets, The Electromagnetic Field, etc. On the second floor there are the National Security Educational Hall and the National Defense Education Hall, where the military education is carried out by large-screen demonstrations. And, on the deck, the cupolas, divided into four layers, consists of the Central Control Room, the Combat Headquarters, the Flying Control Room, and the Operator Cabin. In the vicinity of the carrier, used airplanes, cannons, tanks, and amphibious battle vehicles, etc. are placed.

The Living Experience Area consists of 32 civil residential houses from different countries, such as Chinese, American, Spanish, Greek, British, etc. This area can accommodate almost 3000 people at the same time, its dining hall can seat 1200 people for meals at the same time, and its shower rooms can be used by 500 people also at the same time. Besides, it is equipped with such facilities as the Internet, visual telephones, IDD telephones, post offices, shops, etc. The students that come for a short stay can exercise self-management and self-service, cultivate their own ability to take care of themselves and realize self-education.

Next to the Living Experience Area is the Sports Training Area, which is divided into two sections: the water activity part and the physical education part. The former provides such items as dragon boat race, small sailing boat, surfing board, rubber dinghy, kayak while the latter is composed of some 10 sports halls such as a football field, a basketball hall, a volleyball hall, a swimming hall, and so on.

Designed by Shanghai Institute of Physical Education, the Bravery and Wisdom Area is made up of four sections: the Route for the Brave, the Expansion Area, the Interesting Bridges, and the Rock Climbing Square.

In the Scientific Exploration Area, the visitors can use the resources of this campsite to carry out researches in terms of ecological investigation, mapping and topographical measuring, etc.

Spacious as it is, the park provides transportation vehicles such as sightseeing storage battery cars, two-person bicycles, four-wheel vehicles, etc.
