Urban Vegetable Garden of Fengxian　奉贤都市菜园

About 50 km away from Shanghai, the Urban Vegetable Garden of Fengxian is a tourist spot built by the Everbright Food Co. Ltd. on the basis of the agricultural ecological development. It is a tourist spot that integrates sightseeing and tourism, business and holiday, popular science education, and relaxation and health. The whole garden falls into two parts: the vegetable-themed park that covers an area of 400 mu on the east side of the highway and the relaxation and recreational zone that takes up approximately 300 mu on the west side of the highway. The latter includes a hundred-mu vegetable garden, an amusement ground for children, and a relaxation sightseeing part. In the amusement ground for children there are lawn football, kite-flying, beach volleyball, mini-golf, vegetable labyrinth, etc. Children could also plant potted vegetables by themselves. To the north of the garden there is another large vegetable garden, covering an area of 3,000 mu, where tourists could enjoy picking various seasonal fresh organic vegetables.

At the main entrance, there is a broad promenade and planted in the middle are tall date palm trees. The Central Square is the best observation place in the garden, and in the middle there is the 70-mu artificial lake, named Guangming Lake, meaning Everbright Lake. It is also an angling location.

The Land-reclaiming Museum is located in the northwest corner of the garden. The man-made undulating hills and rivers represent the countryside views of farming fields. The museum demonstrates the cultivation and growth of various vegetables, grains, and fruits. With the typical farmers' residences, and the traditional soybean curd workshop and weaving workshop, and the farming tools, it exhibits the land-reclaiming history of the middle and lower reaches of the Changjiang River.

The Boya Agricultural Garden displays the combination of new agricultural technology, culture and arts. Besides demonstrating the unique cultivation of special vegetables, the garden exhibits the artistic meaning of a variety of vegetables.

In the Exotic Melon and Fruit Garden, there are dozens of species such as gourd, pumpkin, water melon, white gourd, smooth luffa, and bitter melon, etc. as well as other colorful and apprecitation vegetables. The garden demonstates several kinds of cultivating modes, as well as the merging of technology and arts.

The Four-season Fruit Garden is a concentration camp of melons and fruits. It is prosperous and fragrant all year round. The greenhouse mainly cultivates and grows the fruits from the tropical and sub-tropical regions, such as banana, lychee, longan, and altogether some 30 species. It is here that tourists could see the trees growing in the tropical region. In the fruit garden are inter-planted many kinds of vegetables and some sunlight-free low flowers and grass, fully showing the natural ecology by matching between the undulating land and the rich and colorful fruit trees. Within the greenhouse, the verdant leaves, the colorful fruits, and the refreshing aroma make the tourists reluctant to leave.
