Revenue is created at the time that goods or services are provided.Revenues are the inflows or other enhancements of assets of an entity or settlements of its liabilities during a period from delivering or producing goods, rendering services,or other activities that constitute the entity's ongoing major or central operations.

There are two essential characters with revenues, one is that they arise from an enterprise's primary earnings activities;the other is that they are recurring or continuing in nature.Accounting theorists sometimes describes revenue as“entity accomplishment”or“the product of the enterprises”.

Interest-bearing investment of various account titles are used to describe different types of revenue. For example, overnight records its revenue in account entitled Repair Service Revenue.A business, which sells merchandise rather than services, uses the term“Sales”to describe its revenue. In the professional practices of physicians,CPAs,and attorneys, revenue usually is called“Fees Earned”.A real estate office, however, might call its revenue Commissions Earned.A professional sports team might have separate revenue accounts for Ticket Sales,Concessions Revenue, and Revenue from Television Contract.Another type of revenue common to most business is Interest Revenue, stemming from the interest earned on bank deposits, notes receivable and interest-bearing investments.
