中国人认为自己是龙的传人，中国是龙的故乡，对龙具有一种特殊的情感，因此对龙的寓意和象征要远比西方人的寓意和象征具体得多，偏爱得多，运用得多，表现得多。而对西方人来说，自有《圣经》以来，龙就是一个反面角色，这种理念不仅表现在文学、美术之中，也表现在习俗、语言之中。

如果说东西文化碰撞有最激烈点的话，那么，东西方人对龙的理念则存在着巨大的反差和裂痕，这种理念差距之一便是反映在东西对龙的寓意之上。这种裂痕与其说是一种理念差异，还不如说是一种泛文化差异，是一种东西方民族的历史、宗教、习俗、审美等面的差异。
