| Step 1 Warm-up Enjoy a video about Christmas song and let the students have a talk and show what they know about Christmas. Step 2 Pre-reading Present some Christmas things in the pictures and new words on the blackboard. Step 3 Fast reading Read the passage quickly and match the people with the things they do.
Step 4 Careful reading Read the passage again and answer three questions: 1. Where did Rose find her promised watch? 2. Why was it called white Christmas? 3. What is Christmas like in Step 5 Further reading Go through the points again and have a quick look. 1) … saw my promised watch promise ①noun 承诺；许诺；诺言 make a promise, keep one’s promise, break one’s promise ②verb 答应，许下承诺 promise to do sth, promise sb. to do sth., promise sb. that 2) …saw a gift with no name on it. with no name on it作定语修饰名词gift Do you know the woman with the baby on her arm? Attention: with+名词+形容词/副词/介词短语/v-ing/to do/to be done也可以再句中作状语，表示原因，方式，时间伴随等。 3) …when he saw me wearing it … see sb. do sth. sb. is doing sth. right now. see sb. doing sth. Focus on the whole procedure. eg. I saw her clean the classroom. (强调做过这件事) I saw her cleaning the classroom. (强调正在做这件事) 同样用法的动词除了see之外，还有feel, watch, hear等感官动词。 4) be supposed to ①应该，得 如： Everyone is supposed to wear a seat belt in the car. ②大家认为是 如： I haven’t seen it myself, but it is supposed to be a good movies. 5) We woke up to a white Christmas. wake up 醒来；to介词 如： He has just woken up to using computers. 6) All major roads were closed because of … because of 由于，后接名词或名词短语 如： I came back because of the rain. 7) shock ①noun 震惊，指情绪上的打击，给人打击的事 ②verb shock sb. 使某人震惊 ③a. shocked 惊愕的，震惊的shocking 令人震惊的 8) a bunch of 9) express ①表达，陈述I don’t know how to express my thanks. ②快递 SF-express 10) scene ①景色，景象 What a fantastic mountain scene! ②地点，现场；背景The scene of this play is set in Ireland. 11) surprise n./v. unexpected or unusual event 意想 不到的事，不同寻常的事 surprise sb. adj. surprising / surprised
