Section A. Directions: Read a passage as correctly and fluently as you can. (20%,共20)

   Oily water separators are used to separate oil from bilge water before the latter is pumped overboard. On the tank top of the engine room, we can very often find water. The water usually comes from the pump and valve packing glands, leaks, spills, washing water, air reservoir drains, and many other sources. Over a period of time, water accumulates as bilge water. The oily water separator works on the principle of coalescing small oil droplets in the water to form larger oil drops. When the oil drops become large enough, the lower density oil drops floats up and collects at the top of the vessel. The water remains at the lower portion and is pumped overboard.

1. What boiler is used on a motor ship at sea? 采用柴油机作为动力装置的船舶在海上航行的时候使用什么锅炉?

-- Exhaust gas boiler.  废气锅炉。

2. Whats the function of the oily water separator?  油水分离器的作用是什么

-- It is used to treat bilge water before it is discharged into the sea.   它用来处理排到海里之前的舱底水。

3. What does CPP stand for?  

-- Controllable pitch propeller.  可控螺距螺旋桨。

4. What is the function of the turning gear? 盘车机的作用是什么?

-- To turn the main engine before starting.  启动前转动主机盘车。


Section C. Directions: Present your ideas about a topic. (10% 10)

The engine room.

The engine room is the heart of a ship. It is generally located at the stern near the ship bottom. In the engine room, there are a lot of machinery and systems, such as the main engine, the generator engine, boilers, pumps, the refrigerating system, and the air conditioning system. The main engine, also called the main propulsion plant,is the largest and most important one. The modern improvement of control systems results in machinery space remaining unattended for long periods. That is UMS.

Sea training is done when the Marine Engineer has accumulated sufficient knowledge to enable him to go to sea on an ocean. This is the time when he can live the life of a seaman. The Cadet Marine Engineer receives his uniform as an officer. He usually undergoes his apprenticeship under the 2nd Engineer, who will assign him duties. Because various engineers have specific duties and responsibilities, the cadet engineer may be assigned to help other engineers during his tour of duty on board ship. The sea training can be anything from 6 months to 1 year. 


Section B. Directions: Answer four questions. (20% 每题5)

1. What's the function of the lubricating oil in main engine?  主机中的滑油的作用是什么?

-- To reduce friction, remove heat, neutralize acid conditions and so on.  减少摩擦,移除热量,中和酸性状况,等等.

2.  What does UMS stand for? Have you served UMS?  无人机舱

 -- UMS stands for Unattended Machinery Space. Yes, I have served UMS.

3.  What kinds of main engine and generator engine have you worked on?   

-- Main engine is 2-stroke low speed and generator engine is 4-stroke medium speed.

4.  What are the two types of the cooling system?  冷却系统地两种类型是什么?

-- The closed cooling system and the open cooling system.  闭式冷却系统和开式冷却系统

 

Section C. Directions: Present your ideas about a topic. (10% 共10分)

Talk about anti-pollution equipment防污染设备 on board ship

     Anti-pollution equipment is necessary especially for ocean-going ships. The equipment includes the oily water separator, the incinerator and the sewage treatment plant. The oily water separator is used to treat the bilge water before it is discharged overboard. The incinerator is used to burn oil wastes and  solid wastes on board. The sewage treatment plant is used to treat the sewage on board. These equipment are used to prevent pollution from ships to the sea.

 The engine telegraph is a device with a pointer and handle, which is used to convey orders between the bridge and the engine room. Orders like "dead slow ahead", "half astern", "full ahead", "stop" are some examples of orders. When the personnel on the bridge move the handle of the telegraph on the bridge, there is a corresponding movement of the pointer of the engine room telegraph together with the sound of a gong. The engineer maneuvering the engine at the engine room on hearing the gong and the movement of the pointer will acknowledge the order by moving the handle to the same indication. The gong will then stop sounding.

 

Section B. Directions: Answer four questions. (20% 每题5分)

1. What is your marital status?  How many departments are there on board?  

-- I am single. There are three departments on board. Engine department, deck department and service department.

2. What's the function of the head tank in the cooling water system? 冷却系统中高置水箱的作用是什么?

-- For water expansion, vent air and water make-up.  膨胀,放气和补水.

3. Have you ever experienced PSC inspection? Where and when was your last inspection?  

-- Yes. It was last year, in Singapore.

4. Please introduce four fixing parts of marine diesel engine. 请介绍船用主机的4个固定部件。

-- Bedplate, cylinder block, cylinder cover and frame.  机座,气缸体,气缸盖和机架.


Section C. Directions: Present your ideas about a topic. (10% 10)

Self-introduction

My name is Wang Xiaoming. I was born in 2001 in Hangzhou. I am not married but I have a beautiful girlfriend. I studied in Zhejiang International Maritime College from 2018 to 2021.
