Declaration of Independence

A document declaring the thirteen American colonies free and independent of Great Britain, adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. In the document the author referred to “a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation,” and he tried to tell the world why they were freeing themselves of British rule.
