Why  Study  Materials Chemistry?

1.3 Why  Study  Materials Chemistry?

¡Many an applied scientistor engineer, whether mechanical, civil, chemical, or electrical, will at onetime or another be exposed to a design problem involving materials.

(1) Many times, a materials problem is one ofthe selecting the right material from the many thousands that are theavailable. There are several criteria on which the final decision is normallybased.

(2) A second selection consideration is anydeterioration of material properties that may occur during service operation.

(3) Finally, probably the overridingconsideration is that of economics: What will the finished product costs?
