Section C  Dialogues  

Listen to the following dialogues, and pay special attention to the phrases and sentences which express one’s ability and skills.

★ Dialogue One 

(Lisa, the Personnel Manager, is talking with David, the job applicant, about his ability and skills .） 

 

Lisa:  Can you tell me about your strengths?

David: I am good at planning so that I can always get things done on time.

Lisa:  Well, that’s very important. Planning leads to high efficiency in work. Then what are your weak points?

David: When I think something is right, I tend to stick to that. Does that sound a little stubborn? But I am trying to find a balance between insistence and compromise.

Lisa:  If your opinion is right in fact, it will be good to insist on that. But if not …Are you more of a follower or a leader?

David: I don't try to go ahead of people to be the leader. I'd rather cooperate with the team, and get the job done by working together.

Lisa:  That’s not always an easy job, you know. How do you work under pressure?

David: I find it stimulating and challenging.

Lisa:  As said in our advertisement, English competence is a key to this position. How’s your proficiency in English?

David: I have learned English for 10 years, and passed College English Test Bands 4 and 6. 

Lisa:  That’s great. What about your spoken English?

David: My spoken English is fairly good enough to express myself fluently and communicate with foreign customers without any difficulty.

Lisa:  What other foreign languages do you speak?

David: I did a self-study of Japanese in college, and I can carry on some daily conversations in Japanese.

 

★ Dialogue Two     

(The interviewer is asking the job applicant about his special skills and certificates he has obtained.) 

Interviewer: Have you obtained any certificate of technical qualifications or license?

Applicant: Yes, I have received an Engineer's Qualification Certificate and a driver's license.

Interviewer: How many years have you had the driver's license?

Applicant: I have two years’ driving experience.

Interviewer: That's good. What special skills do you have, can you tell me?

Applicant: I have proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Word and Excel.

Interviewer: What computer languages have you learnt?

Applicant: Visual C++, C and Delphi.

Interviewer: Do you have any special training in programming?

Applicant: No, but I have database programming experience and network knowledge.
