Dialogues  

Listen to the following dialogues and pay special attention to the phrases and sentences which express ones work experience.

Dialogue One 

(Robert is having an interview. The employer is asking him about his work experience. 

 

Interviewer: Do you have any work experience in this field?

Robert:  Yes. After my graduation from university, I worked as a Sales Representative in a foreign representative office, and then I transferred to a joint venture as a Market Development Manager. So I am familiar with the market in China.

Interviewer: What have you learned from the jobs you have had?

Robert:    I learned to be patient when dealing with customers complaints and try my best to solve them. In addition, I learned at my previous jobs how to cooperate with my colleagues.

Interviewer: Does your current employer know you are looking for another job?

Robert:     No, I haven't discussed my leaving plans with my current employer, but I am sure he will release me.

Interviewer: What is your impression of your present company?

Robert:    Very good.

Interviewer: What would your current colleague say about you?

Robert:    They would say I'm a dependable and hard worker.

Notes

1. joint venture, 意为“合资企业”。三资企业是按照中国法律成立的企业形态,包括中外合资企业(joint-venturesino-foreign joint venture)、中外合作企业(sino-foreign cooperative enterprise外资企业foreign-invested enterprise)。

 

Dialogue Two     

Linda is having an interview. James, the personnel manager, is asking her about her work experience.

 

James: What kind of jobs have you had?

Linda: I have been a Production Manager.

James: How many years have you worked as a Production Manager?

Linda: 3 years.

James: Would you like to tell me something about your outstanding achievements?

Linda: I had introduced an advanced product line, which increased the output and lessened the cost.

James: Wonderful. Then how many employers have you worked for?

Linda: Frankly speaking, three. If your company employs me, it will be my fourth.

James: Then have you received any award at your present company?

Linda: Yes. I was awarded the title of advanced worker last year.

James: How would you evaluate the company you are with

Linda: Although I could not say that everything is perfect thereI still very much appreciate what the company has given meespecially many chances.

James: How would your colleagues evaluate you?

Linda: They would say I am a responsible friend and a capable colleague.

James: Can you get recommendations from your present employers?

Linda: Yes, I have brought them with me. Here they are.

James: Do you have any questions?

Linda: I think that you have covered all the important points already. But if I have any questions later, may I contact you? 

James: Sure.
