Unit 7 Critical analysis

Position

position---Refers to the attitude or point of view taken up by P1 in producing a text, or by P2 in interpreting it.  

Terms of reference

The general question that arises from this discussion is what motivates the use of one expression rather than another. And we are not only talking about the kind of terms of reference we have just been examining in this particular text. 

Every use of language involves selection and so every text can be rewritten in other terms---terms that could have been chosen, but for one reason or another, were not.
