Raising peer students' consciousness of conserving energy and food

This unit is about energy and food crises. The purpose is to help us understand the worlds energy and food situations, and urge us to find effective solutions to the problems. As a college student, you should conserve energy and food yourself, but meanwhile, you also have the responsibility to help increase other people's consciousness of conserving energy and food.

ln this unit project, you will work together in groups of four or five on one of the following topics. The first topic focuses on energy conservation, and the second one on food conservation.

lf you choose the "energy conservation" topic, you can follow the steps here:

1 Each of you first takes some pictures on campus to show places where electricity isoften wasted.

2 Group members gather together to look at the pictures. Make a list of the places where electricity is often wasted.

3 Group members work together to create a poster, telling people the importance of saving energy, and giving them tips on how to save energy in their daily lives. Try to make your poster as impressive or creative as possible.

4 Put up your poster wherever it is necessary on campus.

5 Report to the class what you have done, using necessary visual aids.

lf you choose the "food conservation" topic, here are the steps for you to follow:

1 Each of you interviews a few students on campus and asks them whether they sometimes waste food, and why they waste food. Take notes when conducting the interview.

2 Group members gather together to report about the interviews, focusing on the reasonswhy students sometimes waste food.

3 Group members work together to write a survey report, using the data you have gathered.

4 Make a presentation in class, using necessary visual aids. Report to your classmates what your group has found, especially the reasons why students sometimes waste food. Persuade them not to waste food, and tell them how to avoid wasting food.
