Activity :Poster Design “If My Student Had a Rare Condition...”
Objective: As future English teachers, it is important for you to be prepared to teach all students, including those with special needs or rare diseases.In this activity, you will work in teams to design an educational poster that raises awareness of a special rare condition and reflects how an English teacher can support a student with that condition in class.Think task combines your English skills, teaching awareness, and social responsibility.
Instructions:
Work in teams of 6–7 students. Each team will:
1.Choose one rare disease or special condition from the video clip(e.g.Autism,Tourette Syndrome, Albinism,etc.)
Imagine: A student with this condition joins your future English class
2. Poster Content:
Your poster should include the following parts (in English):
Title: e.g. Rare But Real: Autism
What is this condition? (brief explanation for students/teachers)
How might it affect learning and behavior in class?
As an English teacher, how would you support this student?
Tips for classmates (how to show kindness and inclusion)
A short slogan (e.g. Different, not less. / Support. Include. Respect.)
(Optional) A short Chinese corner to show bilingual teaching awareness
3. Design Requirements:
Use English as the main language
Draw by hand
Make it visually clear, informative, and suitable for a middle school audience
You may include icons, diagrams, or illustrations
4. Presentation:
Each group will present their poster in English (2–3 minutes), explaining:
Why you chose the condition
Key content on your poster
How this connects to your role as a teacher
5. Teachers’ comments on the performance of the Teams.
