Directions: Watch the following video clips and work as a team to finish the task below. 

●"With the increasingly tight link between sports and business, athletes are becoming high quality idols pursued by young people," said Jiang Minghua, professor of Guanghua School of Management, Peking University. "People naturally have great trust in athletes because they are reliable with clean records, professionals with years of hard practice, attractive in personality and nationalistic. And these qualities 

will be projected to the brands they endorse.“


1. Watch the video and note key information (e.g., commercial value, public image, and social impact of athletes and entertainment stars).   

2. Group Discussion and Role-Choosing- Task :  

 · Each group selects a role for discussion:  

      Brand Representatives: Discuss reasons for choosing athletes or entertainment stars as brand ambassadors;  

      Public Representatives: Analyze the social influence of athletes or entertainment stars;  

      Media Commentators: Evaluate the performance of athletes and entertainment stars in brand endorsements.  

  ·Each group must complete the following tasks:  

    1. Discuss and summarize the viewpoints of their assigned role;  

   2. Design a 2-minute English presentation simulating their role and submit a short discussion summary in Xuexitong (e.g., a brand representative holding a press conference, a public representative expressing opinions, etc.).  It includes the main viewpoints of their assigned role; the similarities and differences between athletes and entertainment stars in brand endorsements; their positive impact on society and young people.  


3. Examples:

  What qualities make athletes/entertainment stars suitable for brand endorsements?  

  How do their endorsements influence young people and society?  

  What responsibilities do they have as public figures?

Why are athletes often seen as more trustworthy than entertainment stars?

·Presentation Examples:  

  Brand Representatives: We chose Gu Ailing as our brand ambassador because her professionalism and national pride align with our brand values ... 

  Public Representatives: Athletes like Gu Ailing inspire young people to work hard and pursue their dreams ...

  Media Commentators: While entertainment stars have a wider fan base, athletes often bring a sense of authenticity to brand endorsements ... 


Evaluation Criteria:  

1. Listening Comprehension: Accurately capture key information from the audiovisual material (20%);  

2. Discussion Participation: Actively participate in group discussions and propose insightful viewpoints (20%);  

3. Role-Playing and Presentation: Demonstrate logic and persuasiveness  (30%);  

4. Summary and Reflection: Clearly and logically summarize group viewpoints, reflecting deep ideological integration (30%).
