16世纪，地理大发现开启了大航海时代，也加快了全球化的进程。香山澳门不仅成为多边贸易和文化交流的重要枢纽，而且一度是中国人尤其是香山人瞭望西方、走向世界的门户。鸦片战争后，受世界工业革命浪潮和移民大潮的影响，香山人开始大规模结伴出洋，去异国他乡谋求发展。

四海为家的香山人，不仅在海外移居地开辟出崭新的天地，而且在全球工业化和世界贸易一体化进程中扮演了重要角色。

Since the 16th century, the Geographical Discovery ushered in the Age of Sail, expediting the progress of globalization in the meantime. Xiangshan county, together with Macao,    not only thus grew into important hubs for multilateral trade and cultural exchange, but also became portals for Chinese people especially Xiangshan people to observe the west and travel to the world. After the outbreak of the Opium War, Xiangshan people began travelling overseas in large groups to make a living abroad under the influence of global industrial revolution and migration waves.

As Xiangshan people settled down in everywhere they went, they not only broke new grounds in their new home but also played significant roles in the process of global industrialization and trade unification.

Since the 16^th century, the Age of Discovery ushered in the age of (Exploration vs) sea voyage, expediting the progress of globalization in the meantime. (Macao, which was then under the jurisdiction of Xiangshan County vs） Xiangshan county, together with Macao, which was then under its jurisdiction, not only thus grew into important hubs for multilateral trade and cultural exchange, but also served as a gateway for Chinese people, especially those from Xiangshan, to look west and head towards the world. After the outbreak of the Opium War, Xiangshan people began travelling overseas in large groups to make a living abroad under the influence of global industrial revolution and migration waves.

The people of Xiangshan, who have made their home all over the world, have not only opened up new world/ created new lives/thrived in their overseas settlements, but have also played an important role in the process of global industrialization and the  integration of world trade.
