Frugality is a Chinese Virtue
Food is the most important thing for the people. Saving food is not only a glorious tradition of the Chinese nation, but also a respect for workers. There are many proverbs about thrift in Chinese as follows:
“俭,德之共也;侈,恶之大也。”“取之有度,用之有节,则常足。” “静以修身,俭以养德。”“山下有雷,君子以慎言语,节饮食。” “俭节则昌,淫佚则亡。”“一粥一饭,当思来之不易;半丝半缕,恒念物力维艰。” “春种一粒粟,秋成万颗子。四海无闲田,农夫犹饿死。”
Seven Deadly Sins in the West
In the Christian faith of western countries, there are seven deadly Sins, namely greed, gluttony, sloth, lust, pride, envy, wrath. They are originally used in early Christian doctrine to educate and instruct followers about the immoral tendencies of the fallen men.
Gluttony, the second sin, comes from the Latin “gluttire”, meaning to gulp down orswallow. Gluttony is the overconsumption of anything to the point of waste. Accordingto Christian belief, it is considered a sin because of its excessive desire for food, or its with holding from the needy. Is gluttony a sin? What does Bible say about overeating? The bible defines the act of overeating as gluttony. We are commanded to eat and drink for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31) and honor our body as a temple of God (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) Overeating, being gluttonous, does not give glory to God or bring honor to our bodies, God’s temple. What does the Bible say about overeating?

According to Paul Tautges, senior pastor at Cornerstone Community Church, there’s a silent, but obvious sin of our generation:gluttony. The USA is a land of plenty, and we too often abuse our abundance. But there’s far more than our waistline at stake.
