Lecture 2   Meishan: a City with a Thousand-Year

 Poetical and Literary Tradition


I. Pre-reading Activities:

Task 1  Watch the video, take notes, and tell your partner about your impression of Meishan city with the help of the notes.


II. While-reading Activities:

Task 2  Read the following passage and answer the questions.

(1)  Can you briefly introduce Meishan?

(2)   Can you list some of Su Dongpo's achievements?


III. Post-reading Activities

   Appreciate the video "Meishan: a City with a Thousand-Year Poetical and Literary Tradition" and do the following tasks.

Task 3  Find some famous poems by Su Dongpo, appreciate them and try to translate one of them into English. Write down your translation and share with your classmates in class. 

Task 4 Watch a video about the Three-Su Temple. Then, suppose you are an English-speaking tour guide, how would introduce this memorial temple in English to your tourists ? Please share you video (within 3 minutes) with your classmates.

Task 5 Please use your imagination and creativity to create a poster for Meishan city. Visual or video elements can be included to make it interesting.
