4. Course Description

This course aims to provide students with a solid foundation of professional English in environmental engineering. Key topics include emerging global, regional and local environmental issues; atmosphere, air pollution and global climate change; water resources and water pollution; soil resources and soil pollution; solid waste management.

5. Intended Learning Outcome

On successful completion of this course, the students are expected to be able to understand how to communicate in English for the abovementioned topics, and further master fundamental knowledge of various pollution in environment and technologies used in its control and remediation.

• address challenges in environmental science by integrating scientific knowledge, technical applications, and innovative technology;

• identify and describe different scientific methods to critically evaluate complex, emerging environmental problems at global and local scales;

• develop a broad interest in the environment and connect the knowledge to their major study;

• apply the knowledge in daily life to live more sustainably and to contribute to environmental protection.

6. Course Assessment Scheme

• Class participation (20%) including attending classes, taking in-class and on-line quizzes, etc. 出勤、课内+线上学习

• Group presentation and discussion (20%) 专题交流 (solid waste pollution & control)

• Final Exam (60%) 闭卷:选择题、名词解释、阅读、翻译
