News report 1:
Becoming an Australian citizen is about to get harder. The Australian government has announced that people seeking to become Australian citizens will have to accept Australian values.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on Thursday said the current citizenship exam failed to judge whether a person would accept"Australian values.”
Those who apply for Australian citizenship are currently tested on their knowledge of law and national symbols. But the new test will include questions that assess a candidate's commitment
to Australia, their attitudes toward gender equality, and whether they agree with the Australian social values.
Mr.Turnbull said that Australia's multicultural society is defined by commitment to common values, such as freedom, respect, and equality between the sexes.
"These basic values are what make us Australians. And our citizenship exam should reveal that,"said Mr.Turnbull.

(I=Interviewer L=Yang Liu)
I: Today we have young artist and visual designer YangLiu iwth us. Welcome!
L: Thank you.
I: Your book East Meets West is very popular with many viewers. In your designs, you make use of simple symbols and shapes to represent culture differences in Germany and China. How did you come up with the idea to create this work?
L:The interest for it was an absolute surprise for me because it is a personal work of mine; in fact, the images in this design are only based on personal experiences in the 26 years I've lived in Germany and China.
I:What does identity mean to you? And how has your own cultural identity, that is Chinese born, German raised, influenced your work?
L: For me, personal identity is always more important than cultural identity. I don't see myself as a Chinese or a German. The Asian and European cultures both have influenced me and my works. I'm seeing myself more as a person, who belongs to all the places I have been to. I started the design in New York. The distance gave me a better view on my personal history.
I:What are your thoughts on the need to bridge the cultures of East and West?
L:I hope that with social media and with the new technological development, the world will become smaller. And the cultural' differences between the younger generations around the world could be narrowed. I guess in the future the differences between generations will be much bigger than
between cultures.

Ellie: Where did you go on holiday, Owen?
Owen: A town called Porthcawl on the south coast of Wales -it's a really beautiful place.
Ellie: ucky you! I love sea air …
Owen: Well, yes. It makes me feel positive, too, until I see a bird with its head caught in a
plastic bag …
Ellie: What do you mean?
Owen: I'm talking about pollution.Did you know that one sea animal or bird dies every 30
seconds because of plastic pollution?
L)~~--~
Ellie:RReally? That's shocking! But what can any of us actually do about it?
Owen: I personally think there's a lot we can do. I mean, for a start,we can simply clean up our local areas. That's within our control, isn't it?
Ellie: I guess it is.
Owen: I try to go out every week and pick up plastic litter, like bottles and bags, with a group of other people who care about the environment.
Ellie:You mean plogging? That's the word some people use for picking up litter while out jogging!
Owen: Exactly! Anything I can do to help the environment -I'm in.
Ellie: You're right, you're right! I'm quite lazy but I should do more.

Passage 1:
When you buy some chocolate or coffee in the supermarket, have you ever noticed a picture of a green frog and the words“Rainforest Alliance”on the box?Do you know what this special stamp
means?
The Rainforest Alliance is an international organization established in 1987.Its aim is to help save and protect the world's rainforests. These rainforests are home to thousands of different plants, animals and local communities. Many of them are in danger because big companies often cut down the trees to create more land for farming. That can often turn the land into a place where nothing can grow, and people lose their homes.
The organization connects businesses, farmers and shoppers to create new economic opportunities
in forest regions. This allows people to live in balance with nature. It also trains farmers in more advanced farming methods.
So, be sure to look out for the Rainforest Alliance label next time you reach for a bar of chocolate or a bag of coffee. When you see the stamp, you know that the farm or forest where that product came
from has passed the environmental standards of the Rainforest Alliance.

Passage 2:
Climbers say that it's easy to find your way to the Base Camp on Mount Qomolangma. Just follow the rubbish. And there is plenty of it.That is notsurprising, as almost 5,000 people have climbed all 8,848.86 meters to the top of the world's highest mountain.
Each climber brings equipment, clothes, food and other things they need for the difficult journey. But what goes up does not necessarily come down, and a lot of rubbish gets left behind.
The growing problem of rubbish on the mountain is so bad that China has closed its base camp and the area around it. In recent years, Chinese volunteers have cleaned up thousands of kilos of rubbish, but there is still a lot of waste, and it is harming the environment.
To help solve the problem and to make climbers more responsible, the government of Nepal asks climbers to pay some money before they go up Qomolangma. They can get the money back if they bring back certain kilos of rubbish when they come down.
