有些signal words表示的是“因果”关系，表示原因的词语有：because, since, as, because of, thanks to，等等。表示结果的词语有：so, consequently (因此，所以), thus, therefore, as a result，等等。

请看下面的句子：

I believe that smartphones are dangerous, not because they may cause stress, anxiety, and even depression, but because they change your behavior.

为何作者认为smartphones are dangerous？原因不是they may cause stress, anxiety, and even depression，而是they change your behavior。作者用because表示了这种“因果”关系。

再看下面一段：

There’s no way you can take care of all these children and work to make a living. So, we’re arranged for each child to be placed with a different uncle and aunt. (Unit 3B,Book 1)

妻子死后，撇下了7个孩子。男人既要照顾孩子，又要工作养活一家人，确实困难，所以（So），他的父母和岳父母have arranged for each child to be placed with a different uncle and aunt。这里作者用So表示了这种因果关系。
