This text is adapted from the openingchapter of Crazy English: The Ultimate Joy Ride Through Our Language,written by Richard Lederer, an American author, speaker and teacher. He is best known for his books on the English language and on word play such as puns (双关语), oxymorons (矛盾修辞法) and anagrams (变位词). In his books, Richard Lederer reveals the crazy features of the English language in a humorous way.
