II. Please watch a video clip and get to know China’s great progress in high-speed railway.
The speed of China’s high-speed railways has been picking up like China’s economic development in the last four decades. Since the Beijing-Tianjin intercity railway, China’s first high-speed train line, was completed in 2008, dozens of high-speed railway lines have been completed and gone into service. By the end of 2021, China’s high-speed railway network had exceeded 40,000 km, making it the longest in the world. Now, China’s high-speed trains can run between 300 and 350 km per hour. Due to their safety, efficiency, and comfort, high-speed trains have become China’s main means of travel. At present, there is an average of more than 7,400 high-speed trains operating per day, accounting for 77 percent of all passenger trains.
The high-speed trains can travel through chilling plateaus as well as hot deserts, all thanks to China’s hard technology. Today, China boasts independently innovated hard technologies such as seamless railway tracks and high-speed junctions. Some have been exported to about 100 countries and regions. China has also begun collaboration with many countries and regions in railway planning, design, and construction. Moreover, China’s patent applications for high-speed railway technology occupy the highest percentage in the world, with over 99 percent.
High-speed railways are a good image of China’s equipment production. However, China has never stopped exploring in high-speed railway. Next, we will see not only faster high-speed trains in China, but also double-decker high-speed trains and even driverless high-speed trains. In the future, with smart technology, China’s high-speed railways will continue to charge forward.
