The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese lunar calendar. It is to remember an ancient Chinese poet Qu Yuan and best known for its dragon boat races. 

Generally, there are about four or six boat teams in a dragon boat race. Each team usually includes 20 people, who sit together in pairs. One person sits at the back and steers (掌舵) the boat. There is also a drummer, who sits at the front. The team work together to move the boat through the water from a standing start. To win, the team must reach the finish line before any other team. 

Teams can be all men, all women, or mixed with equal numbers of both men and women. Timing, strength, and endurance (耐力) are three important things a successful team needs to have. The fourth and most important thing is teamwork. It is for this reason that the sport has become so famous around the world. 

Spectacular (精彩的) for both participants and audience alike, dragon boat racing is one of the fastest growing water sports in the world. It is not only spreading to Southeast Asian countries, but also to some Western countries like the U.S., Canada, and Australia.
