In the text, the author talks about how she dealt with challenges in her life andstudy in a British university. As a freshman, you may have also found your ownways to become “local” and adapt to university life. Write a narrative essaydescribing your experience of “learning to become local”.

When I first came to university, I felt completely unprepared for the new lifestyle.I would go to lessons, eat in the canteen, and then just go back to mydormitory, as if I was trying to continue the same routines I had in high school. I would see others around me socializing, joining clubs, going to thelibrary without being asked to, etc. I decided that I would have to find a wayto break my old habits and fit in better.

So,I decided I would fill up all my time, too. I would invite my roommates to cometo the library with me, or try to tag along with others to have lunch together and things like that.

Myfirst year at university ended up being really fun and productive. I completely left behind the old routines I had developed in high school, and became a moreflexible, self-determined learner. I also made loads of friends in the process!
