In fulfilling the responsibilities of PHN/CHN, nurses practice in many settings. Most are employed by agencies that may carry the titles of public health, community health, home health, or visiting nurse. They differ in both size and ownership. PHN/CHN employment opportunities are not limited, however, to these agencies. Nurses may also be employed by hospitals to conduct home care programs or to serve as liaison between the hospitals and community facilities, or by other institutions and agencies, private and governmental, in need of all kinds of services the PHN is prepared to provide in schools, industries, outpatient clinics, community health centers, walk-in clinics for substance abuse and sexually transmitted diseases（STDs）, migrant labor camps, and rural poverty areas. PHNs（public health nurses ）/CHNs （community health nurses） may also work for various international agencies assisting less developed countries, because the need for PHN/CHN services in these countries is usually urgent.
