Listening skill: Identifying Jobs

Identifying the Speaker's Job

Contextual clues(上下文线索) can help  us to identify the speaker’s job and understand what it entails.

Job titles provide a broad idea of therole, but contextual clues may highlight differences in job scopes.

For instance, a driver could be a personal chauffeur(私人司机), a taxi driver, or a truck driver.

You can listen out for clues to the following questions:

1. Where does the person work?

2. What equipment does the person need for his job?

3. Who or what does the person work with?

4. What special skills are needed?

5. Whatare the pros and cons of the job?

Directions: Listen to the following three audios and then record your own answers to the following questions.
