2. 教学基本要求

1) Make students have a general idea of Hardy and his writing.

2) Make clear about Hardy's "Wessex Novels".

3)  Try to improve students’ abilities to appreciate and interpret literature with Tess of the D'urbervilles as a case.

4) Guide Ss to think about and master Hardy's writing ideas.

难点：

1) Compared to Charles Dickens, who focuses on cities, Thomas Hardy pays much attention to countryside in their works. Analyze why.
