1）Review: Religious revolution,Puritan literature

2）John Milton, John Bunyan and their masterpieces

3）Discussion

4）Exercises for critical thinking

5）Philosophical trends

6)   Francis Bacon, his philosophical thinking and  essays

2. 教学基本要求

1) Make Ss know main ideas shown in Paradise Lost and Pilgrim's Progress.

2) Students are capable of  thinking dialectically about the ideas in Paradise Lost.

3) Let Ss have a general idea of Metaphysical poetry, John Donne and his major poems.

3. 单元重点、难点 

重点：

1) An analysis of Milton's Paradise Lost with social background as a major reference; 

2) An analysis of Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress;

3) Have a general idea of Francis Bacon, his philosophical thinking and his major essays.

 

难点：

1) Know  progressive thinking in Paradise Lost;

2) Think dialectically about the main ideas in Paradise Lost;

3) Why is Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress regarded as a religious allegory?
