Course introduction

Hello, dear students!!!

Welcome to English Curriculum and Teaching Methodology class! Here is the introduction of the course, which can show you how we will learn, why we should learn, what we will learn, how you will be evaluated and some specific requirements for the course and for your group presentation.

1. How will we learn?

We will make use of the following APP to assist our course study:

In the website of MOOC, you can search for Professor Wang Qiang's course about language teaching methodology.

2. Why should we learn this course?

The course aims to help the learners to master some basic education theories and teaching skills, which will lay a foundation for their future pseudo practice and real classroom teaching. 

3. What will we learn?

The influential views of language and language learning, qualities of good English teachers and their professional development, the national English curriculum, lesson planning, classroom management, the teaching of English components: pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary as well as the four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, and how to assess language teaching and textbooks, etc.

5. Requirements for the course

1) Attend the class on time.

2) Finish the homework on time (reading, oral discussion, paper work, etc.)

3) Finish the online learning on time.

4) Prepare for the group presentation carefully (Group discussion is very important!)

5) Try to be more active and reflective.

6. Requirements for the Presentation

1) There should be words, pictures, or videos on your PPT.

2) Try to present phrases, or key words on the PPT and then explain them.

3) Don't just read words on the PPT.

4) Each group member should present yourself and work cooperatively.

5) You have 15 -20 mins (for each group). 

6) Your performance will be evaluated by classmates and teacher.

7. Topics for group presentation

1) What is a good language teacher?

2) Introduce components of a lesson plan with an example.

3) How to deal with errors (including sample analysis)

4) A mini grammar lesson (applying three grammar presentation methods)

5) What does knowing a word involve?
