Maybe you say, it is time to get in shape!
Yeah, let's get in shape. But what should we do? Here's some suggestions!
That was just a joke obviously! Let's turn to page 118 in our textbooks to get some really advice about getting in shape. We are going to read the article "Eight Myths About Physical Fitness".
Before we get started, what is a "myth"?
In this context, the word "myth" means, a widely held but false belief.
So this article is going to talk about ideas that people have about fitness, exercise and health in general that are actually false.
Go to page 118
Read the passage. Remember, only underline words you don't know, don't look them up until after you have read the text.
Then go back over the passage and make sure you understand new words and their context.
Finally, you can complete the reading comprehension questions on pages 120-121.
Text 1: Eight Myths About Physical Fitness

Reading Comprehension Questions:
You should have completed reading the text and answering the reading comprehension questions by now. If you have not, please go back and finish that before going on.
Now we will look at the answers to the questions.
Here are the answers:

Discussion:
Now, one more question about fitness. After reading the article, which of the myths did you believe, or partially believe before reading the article? Has the article convinced you to change your view?

Now, it is time for a little more reading skill practice.
Remember, to understand difficult sentences we can find the core or the main clause which includes SVO (subject, verb, object).
Turn to page 120. In your textbook, or in a notebook, paraphrase the sentences given. Remember "paraphrase" means to rewrite the sentence in your own words. So first, find the main clause (SVO). Then, once you understand the sentence clearly, rewrite the sentence with the same meaning in your own words.
You do NOT need to paraphrase #2. That sentence is too difficult to paraphrase without more context.

Go on to check your answers when you are finished.

Now that you have completed the Reading Skill practice you can go ahead and compare your answers. Remember, you do NOT need to have the same answers as me, they just need to have a similar meaning to the original sentence. My answers are just for your to compare and get ideas from.
Reading Skill Answers:
1. Use more calories working out than you consume eating (and you will lose weight).
2. *** (You didn't need to paraphrase this one, but here is an example anyway.) ***
Don't sweat it, you won't gain muscle easily unless you have the same body type as Arnold Schwarzenegger.
3. If you want to burn calories, working out for longer is probably better than more intensity.
4. Mental fitness means exercising your brain to perform at it's best; that does not necessarily mean you will be the smartest person in the room.
5. Physical fitness allows the body to function at peak performance, just like a tune-up can get a motor to perform at it's best.
