Unit 5: Food
Welcome to Unit 5: Food.
Go ahead and watch the welcome video below.
Too bad we couldn't do this unit in a kitchen or restaurant! It would be much more enjoyable and educational. But just for fun, I thought I'd give you a little tour of our little kitchen. I hope you enjoy it.

Now let's have some discussion.
Favorite Food
What is your favorite food? (For this question, you can answer in Chinese.)
Name the Foods:
Do you know all of the foods below? Can you name them?

Name as many as you can.
Eating Healthy
How important do you think it is to eat healthy? Do all people agree on what healthy eating means? When you think of "eating healthy" what does that mean to you?

Comfort Food
Comfort food is food that provides a nostalgic or sentimental value to someone, and may be characterized by its high caloric nature, high carbohydrate level, or simple preparation. The nostalgia may be specific to an individual, or it may apply to a specific culture. (Wikipedia)
The food in the picture at the top is called Mac'n'Cheese. That is short for Macaroni and Cheese. It can also be called KD. 'KD' stands for Kraft Dinner, which is probably the most common brand of Macaroni and Cheese. This is a classic comfort food for Canadian and American kids. It is simple to make, tastes good, and brings back positive memories from childhood - that is what makes it a comfort food.
My personal favorite comfort food is cereal and milk. Not just any cereal, it has to be one of the kinds I like - like Mini Wheats.
Comfort food has science behind it also. Check out the image below:

So what is your favorite comfort food? And when do you eat it?
Now watch this short comedy routine about comfort food.
