(二)基本教学内容
《英语实用口语》课程在基本日常对话、公众演讲报告两个层次上逐步进阶性培养英语口语能力,以全面提高学生日常英语口语输出能力。
课程包括Situation Conversations以及Presentation Skills两部分。Situation Conversations以话题为内容,以口语技能为牵引,提高学生对英语口语的实际应用能力。Presentation Skills探索英语公众演讲与报告的语言、逻辑和文化等方面,着重提高学生公众演讲与报告技能。
本课程共15单元,分32课时讲授,第一部分16课时,内容广泛涵盖了出国学习和生活中所涉及的主要话题。在本部分内容结束后,安排2课时进行考查。第二部分14课时,内容包括公众演讲与报告的设计、表达以及回答问题的技巧等。在本部分内容结束后,安排2课时进行考查。
第一单元 课程介绍
教学目的与要求:对本课程涉及内容有整体的了解; 使学生熟悉并学会谈论家庭关系及生活、朋友及友谊。
教学重点:1.课程目的,要求;
2. Family & Friends:talking about what friends should have in common, how to meet people and maintain friendships.。
教学难点: Talking about family relationships & living arrangements; describing a good friend.
教学内容: To talk about different living situations; qualities of good friends & personalities.
学时分配:2学时。
第二单元 人际关系
教学目的与要求:了解人际关系的基本概念,使学生就相关话题能够自如地进行一般的日常对话。
教学重点:Kinds of Relationships
教学难点:Comparing and describing personalities.
Talking about how you have changed and how you would like to change.
教学内容:To understand people talking about their best friends ; to talk about best friends;
To talk about different types of relationships between people;
To talk about the idea of a perfect partner;
To share advice about relationships.
学时分配:2学时。
第三单元 娱乐与艺术
教学目的与要求:使学生就相关话题能够自如地进行一般的日常对话。
教学重点: Entertainment and Arts
教学难点: Talking about movie trends and surveying genre preferences.
Discussing aspects of different movie genres.
教学内容: To talk about different kinds of movies, and discuss what kinds of movies they like and dislike;
To discuss visual arts and learn about some famous painters and their work.
学时分配: 2学时。
第四单元 迷信与信仰
教学目的与要求:了解迷信和信仰的基本概念,使学生就相关话题能够自如地进行一般的日常对话。
教学重点:Superstitions & Beliefs
教学难点:Describing and discussing superstitions from your own and other cultures.
Telling stories related to superstitions and beliefs.
教学内容:To focus on mystery, optical illusions, and superstitions, including:
talking about mysterious images and optical illusions;
discussing being lucky and unlucky;
talking about superstitions.

第五单元 旅行与交通
教学目的与要求:使学生就相关话题能够自如地进行一般的日常对话。
教学重点:Travel and Transportation
教学难点:Explaining why you would like to visit a particular city.
Discussing quality of life issues.
教学内容:To talk about transportation.
To explore new cities.
To explain why you would like to visit a particular city.

第六单元 新 闻
教学目的与要求:使学生就相关话题能够自如地进行一般的日常对话。
教学重点:News
教学难点:Determining if a story is true or false.
Presenting a recent news story. Discussing how you follow the news.
教学内容:To focus on news stories & current events, including:
* unusual and amusing news stories;
* human-interested stories.
学时分配:2学时。
第七单元 身心健康
教学目的与要求:使学生就相关话题能够自如地进行一般的日常对话。
教学重点:Mind and Body
教学难点: Discussing conversational styles, awkward social situations and appropriate topics of small talk.
教学内容: To talk about activities and treatments people use to stay fit and healthy, and advice for staying in good health;
To discuss different ways of coping with stressful situations.
学时分配:2学时。
第八单元 成 功
教学目的与要求:使学生就相关话题能够自如地进行一般的日常对话。
教学重点:Success and Wealth
教学难点:Discussing jobs that require creativity.
Talking about creative thinking habits.
Discussing inventions we can’t live without.
教学内容:To talk about people who have been successful in various fields;
To discuss wealthy and privileged people, and discuss how important money is to them in their lives;
To discuss winning the lottery.

第九单元 期中测试
测试目的与要求:The midterm will be conducted in pairs. Two students will converse in front of the teacher as if they were having coffee together. The content of the exam will be from a range of questions of which students will be given 4 that they will have to ask their partner and answer. And vice-versa.
测试方式: 4-5- minute conversation in pairs:
Students will have a conversation as if they were in a coffee shop with their partners.
The content of the conversation will be made up from the question cards that are provided to each pair.
Students are expected to take turns asking and answering the question cards in their pair.
As this is a conversation it is emphasized that students say whether they agree or disagree and ask their partner follow up questions after their partner has given their answer.
Directions: Pairs will have a conversation with their partner for 4-5 minutes using the question cards. In this time the instructor will assess the speakers according to the criteria (See the table below). Students should keep on topic, answer the questions appropriately and ask some follow-up questions to present a well flowing conversation.

教学目的与要求:Better understand the concept of Presentations; clearer about the process of preparing a presentation.
教学重点:Organizing Your Ideas
教学难点:Creating Thesis Statement and/or Statement of Purpose.
Making a Preliminary Outline.
教学内容:What is a presentation; Audience analysis; Creating a title, purpose statement, and central idea; Making a Preliminary Outline.
学时分配:2学时。
第十一单元 演示技能与实践 2- 创建主题
教学目的与要求:Understand the characteristics of presentation writing;
Learn better and employ the process of presentation writing.
教学重点:Creating Messages
教学难点:Using of messages. Logic, point, and evidence. Signals and transitions.
Openings and closing.
教学内容:About messages. Using of messages. Logic, point, and evidence. Signals and transitions. Openings and closing.

第十二单元 演示技能与实践 3- 提炼语言
教学目的与要求:Understand the importance of language in presentational speaking;
Know how to choose the right words in delivering presentations.
教学重点:Using Language
教学难点:Choosing the accurate language. Controlling delivery speed, word articulation, and intonation.
教学内容:How to use language accurately;
How to use language clearly;
How to use language vividly;
How to use language appropriately;
And how to use language inclusively.

第十三单元 演示技能与实践 4-设计PPT
教学目的与要求:Learn different tools, esp. PPT in presentations;
Know the strengths of PPT in the presentation and learn how to use it.
教学重点:Designing PPT
教学难点:Presentation technology: Powerpoint, Laser pointers, Microphones.
Using of visual aids.
Avoiding common disasters.
教学内容:Text: to support the communication
Pictures: to simplify complex concepts
Animations: for complex relationships
Visuals: to support, not to distract
Sounds: only when absolutely necessary
Think about people in the back of the room when creating slides

第十四单元 演示技能与实践 5- 发表演讲
教学目的与要求:Better master the key principles of delivering a successful presentation;
Learn about the components and steps of delivery and the application of them.
教学重点:Delivering Presentations
教学难点:Etiquette. Body language. Showing visuals. Controlling speed. Using emphasis.
Handling problem words. Reading a script. Problem situation. Time yourself.
教学内容:To better master the key principles of delivering a successful presentation;
To learn about the components of delivery and the application of them;
To be clearer about the steps of delivering a presentation and learn what to do in each step;
To learn some expressions in delivering your presentation.

教学目的与要求:Learn to evaluate presentations.
教学重点:Answering Questions
教学难点:Being able to ask a question with appropriate language and strategy.

This course, which consists of two parts: Conversation Skills and Presentation Skills, aims to develop students’ English proficiency and competence in oral communication. The students are required to learn to speak English properly in various situations on and off campus, express their ideas on various topics and make short presentations or whilst attaining an ability to converse in academic, social or working situations.
After taking the course, the students should be able to speak English with more confidence and fluency in daily situations. they should be able to have flowing conversation and make impromptu conversations of about 2- 3 minutes on general topics, well-organized and well-supported, and they should also be able to make presentations in groups or on their own on topics they are familiar with, analyzing complicated problems, expressing their views or refuting opposing views. Throughout the course, the students will also gain skills developing their abilities in planning, organizing, coordinating, cooperating, demonstrating, evaluating, and decision-making etc.
Students may be asked to prepare for some speaking exercises before the scheduled lessons. This preparation may include reading, writing, grammar exercises, group work or prepared speeches.
