  Language review on Negotiation

 Conditional sentence is a common structure we use in negotiating. Most conditional sentences have two parts: the if-clause and the main clause, to link a concession we are prepared to make, with the condition for making it. 

1. Ready yourself

 Prepare your objectives, concessions and strategy.

 Gather information about the other side. 

2. Explore each other's needs

Build rapport. State your opening position. Learn the other side's position.

3. Signal for movement

Signal that you are prepared to move form your original position.    

Respond to signals from the other side.

4. Probe with proposals

 Make suggestions and find areas of agreement.

5.  Exchange concessions

 Give the other side something in return for something you  need or want.

6. Close the deal

  Bring the negotiation to a clear and satisfactory end.

 7. Tie up loose ends

  Confirm what has been agreed. Summarize the details on paper.
