The following is about the Pringles Potato Chips

Instead of slicing potatoes and frying them in the traditional way, Procter & Gamble’s engineers developed a process somewhat similar to paper making. They dried and mashed potatoes and pressed them for frying into a specific shape, which permitted the chips to be put neatly on top of one another in sealed containers. Pringles potato chips stay whole and have a shelf life of at least a year. After a new product is screened through the lab, the division that will manufacture it takes over and finances all further development and testing. Before a new Procter & Gamble product is actually introduced to the market, it must prove that the product is superior to its competitors’ in all aspects. A development team begins refining the product by trying variations of the basic formula, testing its performance under almost any possible condition, and altering its appearance. Eventually, a few alternative versions of the product are produced and tested among a large number of Procter & Gamble employees. If the product gets the approval of employees, the company presents it to panels of consumers for further testing. Procter & Gamble feels satisfied if a future product is chosen by fifty-five out of one hundred consumers tested. There is hardly any doubt that, if an innovation is successful, it pays off lavishly.

This expression means one should both work diligently and be ready to mix with others. Ye (业work) originally meant studies; later, it came to mean one’s job or duty. Qun (群others) referred to fellow students and friends but it also included team members and society at large. Working diligently is about one’s attitude to work, while keeping good company is about one’s need to have proper social behavior. They are basic qualities required of an educated person or a person with a job, and are also the basis of a good and healthy society.

Shadow Puppet （皮影戏）
