The humanities should constitute the core of any university worth the name.

                             — Terry Eagleton  (British literary critic, writer)

Ideally, we all want an integrated life. Your goal should be to find a way to do what you love, and make your education support that.

                              — Bruce B. Janz   (American philosopher)

The world has become what it is today through communication and fusion among different civilizations. Further human development entails stronger exchanges and mutual learning among cultures and deeper mutual understanding among the peoples of different countries and closer people-to-people ties. Cultural progress is just as important as economic and technological development in addressing the increasingly pressing challenges we face and in moving humanity towards a better future.

In college days, “Young we were, schoolmates, at life’s full flowering.” One can totally throw oneself into seeking knowledge without any distractions, learning from teachers, exchanging views with classmates and rummaging through piles of books. So there is no reason not to study hard. Work hard, acquire more knowledge and turn what you have learned into your own views and ideas. I hope that you will not only concentrate on book knowledge but also care about the people, the country and the world, and assume your responsibility for society.

By observing heavenly patterns, we can learn about the change of times; by observing human cultural patterns, we can educate the people and build athriving, prosperous, and refined society.
