Scatter diagrams are used to show therelationship between pairs of quantitative measurements made for the sameobject or individual.
For example, a scatter diagram could beused to present information about the production levels and costs.
By analysing thepattern of dots that make up a scatter diagram it is possible to identifywhether there is any relationship (correlation) between the two measurements.
Regression lines, lines of best fit, canalso be added to the graph and used to decide whether the relationship betweenthe two sets of measurements can be explained or if it is due to chance.
