Bluecollar job today

The term blue collar job typically refers to a jobthat involves manual labor and receives an hourly rate of pay rather than an annualsalary. The term blue collar stems from (源于) the uniforms worn by many industrialworkers that were typically made of heavy duty, blue fabric and consisted ofblue shirts and pants or blue coveralls. The automotive manufacturing andrepair industries as well as the construction industry have been referred to asblue collar for decades.

Though a blue-collar job was once thought to be reserved for people with no education or skill who were seemingly onlyqualified to perform manual labor, the defining qualities of a blue-collar jobno longer fit in some industries. For example, many computers and high-techjobs pay by the hour and some construction industry positions pay an annuallysalary. In modern times, a blue-collar job may also require education for anumber of positions, which are categorized as “skilled trades”.

People who have traditionally held a blue-collarjob are referred to as blue collar workers. The stereotype and social class ofthe blue-collar worker has changed over the years. This is due to part to theincrease in technology, which requires training, and the increase in payamongst some industries.

Blue collar job within some industrieshave seen a decline, especially in the manufacturing industry, as the manuallabor within the industry has become outsourced at an increased rate.Construction, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air-conditioning), and automotiverepair remain leading industries offering blue collar jobs in America.
