M: [22]Happy Anniversary!
W: Oh, thank you. They're beautiful. You shouldn'thave... especially since [22]our anniversary waslast week.
M: What? [22]Oh, I completely forgot. How can Imake it up to you? Anything!
W: Okay, let's negotiate. First of all, I want to go onthat dream vacation you've always promised me.
M: You mean, to Chicago?
W: No! To Europe. [23]I want to fly first class and stay at 5-star hotels. And no moreplaces with broken heaters, leaky showers, and dirty bedding.
M: Ah, were those places that bad?
W: Well, something a little nicer, at least once in a blue moon, would be nice. And next,[24]Iwant to get a new kitchen stove. The old one took its last breath days ago.
M: Oh, well.
W: And finally, I want a new wardrobe: some new dresses, shirts, pants, earrings...
M: But...
W: And, no, I'm not going to wear your grandmother's old secondhand pants again.
M: Is that it?
W: Uh, hmm, for now. So, [25]why don't we grab a bite to eat before we start planningthe entire adventure?
M: But lunch wasn't on the list.
W: Let's see. Paris, Rome, London, then a short detour to Russia, China, and, ooh, and Hawaiion the way home.
M: Wow. I'd better ask the boss for a huge raise.

[31]One of the complaints of cityresidents, not surprisingly, is the lack of parking. This problem ispartly caused by all the abandoned cars on the streets. It hasbeen estimated by A to Z Towing Inc., a nationwide tow-truck agency, that [29]overone million cars are abandoned on the streets and alleyways of the nation'scities. Each year, approximately a third of those cars are removed anddestroyed. The rest of the cars, which are not removed, take up parking spacesand make neighborhoods look rundown.
A survey of twenty cities by A to Z reports that as much as 30 million dollarsis spent annually to tow away and dismantle abandoned vehicles. One city alone,Los Angeles, spends five million dollars a year to control the accumulation ofabandoned cars on its streets. Even though the city spends so much money on theprogram, it is always fighting a losing battle as more and more cars areconstantly coming off the production line.
Boston, on the other hand, which spends most of its money on museums andlibraries, does not appropriate tax money to clear abandoned cars off thestreets. In Boston the problem has been dealt with by [30]a non-profitgovernment agency called Street Horizons, which uses the money from therecycling of metal in the cars to pay for the cost of towing them. Theprogram in Boston sounds good although it has not completely reached financialindependence from the federal government yet. Until a truly self-sufficientprogram for removing old cars is developed, it will remain a serious problem.
Questions 29 to 31 are based on thepassage you have just heard.
29. How many cars are towed from the streets each year?
30. What is Street Horizons?
31. What is the problem with abandoned cars?
