1) As we have learned from Text A, Nick’s message is not to let obstacles slow you down. He encourages us to have hope when we are in a difficult situation. Let’s learn what to say when we want to encourage someone to make the best of a tough situation.

—  The important thing is to learn from your mistakes.

—  The important thing is that you tried.

—  Don’t let it get you down.

—  Look on the bright side.

—  Keep your chin(下巴) up!

—  Make the best of it.

2) After reading out loud your answers above, play the roles of Lee and Tiffany in the following text-based dialogue, paying attention to the underlined expressions.

Lee:The most important thing to get from Nick’s message is: Don’t let obstacles slow you down.

Tiffany:As I understand it, he encourages us to have hope when we are in a difficult situation.

Lee:Yes. We need to make the best of whatever happens.

Tiffany:Exactly. Life can be hard. But it is important not to let it get you down.

Lee:That’s the heart of what Nick is saying.

Tiffany:Sure is.

Lee:He is my inspiration.

Tiffany:Mine, too.

*Describe to the class someone who inspires you. The following serves as an example.

Topic: S/he Is My Inspiration

My father is a teacher. He is my inspiration. He has a high sense of responsibility. My mother tells me that she married him just for that sense of responsibility. He is reliable and trustworthy. He inspires me to be a responsible person.

One top of that, my father is practical and honest. He is realistic, and always has a down-to-earth attitude. He does one thing at a time and never puts anything off if possible. He is honest with everybody. To tell the truth, I am practical and honest, too. I think I get it from my father. My father’s great example has made so much possible. He is my inspiration.
