1 Read the story and answer the questions.

A hungry fox saw some beautiful ripe grapes on a vine by the side of the road. But the grapes were out of reach. The fox tried jumping, but he couldn't quite reach them. He tried again, but still couldn't reach. He tried all the tricks he knew to get the grapes, but without success. In the end he gave up, and walked away saying to himself, "It doesn't matter. The grapes were probably sour in any case."

Aesop's Fables

1 Why couldn't the fox get the grapes?

2 How hard did he try to get them?

3 What did he say when he realized he would never get the grapes?

4 Would you have said the same thing?

2 Read the passage and decide whether the fox in Activity 1 is a winner or a loser.
