Blog

What’s a blog?

         A blog is your best bet for a voice among the online crowd. It’s a personal website, jam-packed with features, as easy to use as your email.

blog & blogger

           The word “blog” comes from “web + log”, and “blogger” means the person who writes blogs.

           Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal  online diaries. A typical blog combines text,  images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability of readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.

Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (art blog), photographs (photoblog), videos (video blogging), music (MP3 blog), and audio (podcasting). Microblogging is another type of blogging, featuring very short posts.

Type

There are many different types of blogs, differing not only in the type of content, but also in the way

that content is delivered or written.

      1. Personal blogs  (i.e. Yang Lan’ Blog)

      2. Corporate and organizational blogs      (i.e. The White House Blog)

A blog featuring discussions especially about home and family is not uncommonly called a mom

blog.    While not a legitimate type of blog, one used for the sole purpose of spamming is known as a Splog.

More:

            A microblog differs from a traditional blog in that its content is typically much smaller, in both actual size and aggregate file size ( at most 140 words ). A microblog entry could consist of nothing but a short sentence fragment, an image or a embedded video.

By media type

vlog (a blog comprising videos);

linklog (one comprising links);

sketchblog (a site containing a portfolio of sketches);

photoblog (one comprising photos);

tumblelogs (with shorter posts and mixed media types);

      Sousveillance (One early blog was Wearable Wireless Webcam, an online shared diary of a person’s personal life combining text, video, and pictures transmitted live from a wearable computer and EyeTap device to a web site. This practice of semi-automated blogging with live video together with text was referred to as sousveillance. Such journals have been used as evidence in legal matters.
