Construction industry is a fast-developing and enduring industry. Along with the evolution from stone houses in primitive society to skyscrapers in modern society, construction industry is always closely related with our daily lives in different forms. The aim of this chapter is to teach students some basic information about construction industry, such as what is construction industry, what characteristics does it have，how construction affects our life, and the research & development trend in this area.（建筑业是一个快速发展、经久不衰的行业。随着原始社会石屋向现代社会摩天大楼的演变，建筑业始终以不同的形态与我们的日常生活密切相关。本章的目的是传授学生一些有关建筑业的基本信息，比如什么是建筑业，它有什么特点，建筑业如何影响我们的生活，建筑业的的研究领域以及发展趋势。）
