Unit Two  Tales of true love

1.Teaching goals

Upon completion of this unit, students  are expected to 

have a thorough understanding of the text contextually and linguistically;

■ acquire useful language for telling a love story and know how to use the key words and expressions in context properly;

■ write an informal letter to family members;

■ tell a personal story and recount a popular folk tale;

■ get familiar with the writing of an informal letter;

■ know how to write a condolence letter.


2.Text analysis

You are going to hear my audio analysis of the text. The following are the key words and expressions used here for your references.

at great length; original form; ellipsis marks; a series of three dots in a row (…); the printing of the letters ; hide the fact; type such intimate letters; in a preference; matters of life and death and God in letter two; the level of formality to match the seriousness of the subject;  the archaic and capitalized “Thine”; highly formal; on a lighter note; descending to an informal tone
