1. Watch the video about Cara E. Yar Khan’s grand adventure. Then answer the following questions.
Q: 1) Did she feel fear? Did she give up?
2) How did she make it?
1) She felt fear after she started off, tossing back and forth between fear and courage. Her first impression of Grand Canyon was one of shocks and terrors. But there was no giving up.
2) She mustered up every ounce of courage to not let her fear get the best of her. Eventually she successfully fulfilled her dream of going down to the canyon’s base, but not without showing how her deepest fear can somehow manifest a mirror response of equal courage.

2. Discuss the following questions with your partners and share your ideas.
Q: 1) What would make you fearful?
2) Will it do us any good to feel fearful?
1)Something dreadful would make me fearful: insects, height, deep water, darkness, illness, disaster, public speaking, loneliness, failure, etc.
2)There are both advantages and disadvantages of feeling fearful.
Advantages of feeling fearful:
Feeling fearful, we’ll be careful and cautious enough.
Fear is an invitation to act. Fear is there to warn us that we need to get ready for the future.
Fear pushes us beyond our limits. It drives us to find new resources and options within ourselves.
Fear is necessary in developing our courage. We can’t experience courage without the presence of fear.
Disadvantages of feeling fearful:
Fear produces corresponding emotional states including worry, anxiety, terror, fright, paranoia, horror, anger, revenge, panic and often an inability to function.
Fear renders us helpless, stupid and a victim to circumstances that are beyond our control.
Fear is the mind-killer that hinders us from getting what we want in life.
We should find balance between fear and bravery. Bravery is the middle way of cowardice and rashness. A man who is too aggressive becomes reckless. He who is too afraid and timid becomes coward.
