Part I. Warming-up questions

  1. Do you have part-time jobs? How did you get that job? How about your job interview?

  2. Which factors below are important for getting a job? 

     appearance, experience, sex, marital status, personality, qualifications, references, age, handwriting, blood type, family background, contacts and connections...

  3. Can you add more factors which are important for getting a job?


Part II. Debate.

  1. At work appearence is more important than performance.

  2. you should keep you private life totally separate from your work.

  3. people don't change much during their working lives.

  4. it is best to work for as few companies as possible.

  5. Everybody should retire at 60.

  6. Diploma is more important than competence.

  7. Experience is the most important factor to get a job.


Design:  the class is divided into seven groups and each group has 5-6 students and one half support the argument and the other half work as the opposition side. The pro speaker gives 1min statement and the con leader gives 1min statement and the rest debate 2 mins freely.
