Thomas Edison
Thomas Alva Edison was an American inventor, whose inventions included the record player
and the light bulb.Although Edison was very successful, he faced many challenges and failures
throughout his career.
Edison was born in Ohio in 1847.He had trouble focusing at school, and after attending school for only a few monthshe dropped out of school, taking a job selling snacks and newspapers on trains.
Edison once started a job sending and receiving news. However, he was fired after only a year of working there. Perhaps he decided to become a full-time inventor after that.
Edison'sfirst major invention was the phonograph, or “the record player" as it is commonly known. The phonograph made Edison famous and gave him the motivation to work on more inventions.
Perhaps Edison's most important invention was the light bulb. It is said that Edison made around 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at perfecting this invention. When a reporter asked him how it felt to fail 1,000 times, Edison replied that he didn't fail 1,000 times and the lightbulb was just an invention with 1,000 steps.
We can learn from Edison that if we workhard and don't give up,we can be successful.

How to create a great impression on your first day
When you begin a new job, what should youdo on your first day? Here are
some suggestions.
First impressions are important. Be punctual. And make sure you look your
best. This means clean, polished shoes and well-ironed clothes!
Don't be afraid to ask questions. Remember that you're new-no one
expects you to know everything. If you don't understand an instruction, take time
to check. If not, you risk making a costly mistake!
Accept invitations. If your colleagues ask you to go to the pub after work,
make sure you go along-even if you're tired and just want to go home to sleep!
Getting to know your colleagues outside the office is a great way of getting to
know them.
Be friendly and active. Don't always expect your colleagues to make the first
move. You can break the ice by making small talk. Asking someone "How long
have you been working here?" is always a good conversation starter. Besides,
why not send an email to your colleagues to introduce yourself?
