汽车等待的时候

黄昏时分，一个穿着灰色裙子的女孩坐在公园长凳上看书。虽然她戴着面纱，但依然可以看出她很漂亮。

旁边有个年轻男子在注视着她。他知道女孩已经连续三天在同一时间来到这儿。女孩抬起头，看见了他。“你可以坐在这儿，”女孩说。“我希望能有机会与普通人交谈。”接着她叹了口气。

“出什么事了吗？”男子问道。

“唉！”她说道。“我实在是厌倦了各种珠宝、聚会，还有昂贵的香槟

酒。不管我去哪，人们都能认出我。画家们想要画我的肖像。所以我才戴上了面纱。”

她转向男子，“你是做什么的？”男子回答道：“我在那边那家餐厅工作。”

“好吧！”她说，“那么，很高兴见到你，但我必须走了。我的司机在等我。”

她指向街尾那辆白色的轿车。

男子驻足了一会儿，接着跟上了女孩。她走过那辆轿车，穿过马路，接着走进了那家餐厅。只见一个红发女郎离开了收银台，这个穿灰色衣服的女孩接替了她的位置。

男子叹了口气。他穿过马路，坐上那辆白色轿车，说了两个词：“俱乐部，亨利。”

auto  n.汽车（=automobile）

portrait  n. 画像；（对某事物的）描绘

recognize   v. 认出；承认

E.g. I recognized her by her blonde hair.我从她的金发认出了她。

sigh   v. 叹气

E.g. She sighed deeply at the thought.想到这里，她深深叹了口气。

twilight   n. 黄昏时分；暮色

E.g. They returned at twilight.他们在黄昏时返回。

veil n. 面纱
