1.4 Four generalIELTS reading questions P1-10
P1 Hi everyone! Welcome to Part 2 readingstrategies in Module 1.
P2 Let’s look at Section 1.4 “Four general IELTS reading questions”. As amatter of fact, there are ten types of questions in IELTS reading , which ishighly challenging to command such a huge amount of question types. Therefore,I simplify those ten types of questions into only four:
1. List of Headings 段落主题句& Matching匹配,which are couples and themost challenging type of questions.
2.Filling in the blanks 填空,which is the commonest type of question and can be seen both in CET and TEM tests, etc.
3.Multiple choice 选择,which is the most classic type of question, can be seen both in CET and TEM tests, etc.
4. True/False or Not Given/ Yes/No or Not Given判断,which is the least challenging type of question.
P3 Look at the example for the first type ofquestion— List of Headings
Here Reading Passage 2 hasfive paragraphs, A-E. You are asked to choose the correct headingfor paragraphs B-E(the right answer to paragraph A hasalready been given)from the list of headings below.
P4 Matching, as the couple of List of Headings, hasthree sub-types:
1) matching features人名匹配理论
2) matching sentence endings 句子匹配
3) matching information段落信息匹配
P5 Let’s look at the example for matingfeatures:
Here you are given five statements(Questions 18-21) and the list of people below. You are asked to match each statementwith the correct person, A, B, C or D.
P6 Hereis an example for matchingsentence endings. You are asked to complete each sentence with the correctendings, A-F, below.
P7 Let’s look at the example for matinginformation:
Here Reading Passage 2 has sevenparagraphs, A-G. You are asked to discern which paragraphcontains the following information? This sub-type of question is similar toList of Headings.
P8 Let’slook at the second type of question — filling in the blanks. Hereallfollowing types of questions, such as summarycompletion (both with word bank and without word bank),short answer questions, note completion/sentencecompletion, filling in the blanks, matching features, table completion, diagram completion, flow-chart, etc. could be covered under the broader umbrella of filling in theblanks.
P9 The third type of question is multipleand single choice, which is the most classical type and can be seen both in CETand TEM tests and postgraduate exams, etc.
P10 The fourth type of question is True, Falseor Not Given/Yes, No or Not Given, which is the least challenging type in IELTSreading. I might suggest that you leave it to the last minute and choose more“Trues” or “Yeses “if you haven’t got enough time to go through every question.
P11 So much for this section. Thankyou. Bye bye!
